Join us at the Great North Museum, Newcastle, for 'Forging New Connections' North. With keynote speeches from leading child psychotherapists, Margot Sunderland and Julia Bird, together with a selection of key conversations and creative workshops, this conference provides an exciting opportunity to explore how scientific theory translates into everyday practice.
During the conference you will:

- explore how the insights of neuroscience and creativity can be harnessed to support learning
- share your experiences and discoveries with like-minded professionals
- take away new ideas and practical strategies drawn from Thrive's experience of putting theory into practice in more than 1,000 schools.
This conference and networking event is open to staff working in education, health and social care. For Thrive Licensed Professionals who attend, a total of 5 CPD points will be awarded.
Keynote speakers
Dr Margot Sunderland is a child psychotherapist with over 30 years experience, and is also an award-winning author of more than 20 books in the field of child mental health. Her current roles include: Director of Education and Training at The Centre for Child Mental Health, London; Honorary Visiting Fellow at London Metropolitan University; and Associate Member of the Royal College of Medicine.
Julia Bird is a UKCP registered psychotherapist and a founding director of Thrive, Julia is passionate about understanding how training adults in emotional development impacts on the behaviour and learning of young people. A former teacher, LEA and Ofsted inspector, her experience includes working with LEA's and schools to help them understand how children develop emotionally and socially. Her qualifications include: MSc Gestalt Psychotherapy GPTI; BEd (Hons); Cert and Dip in Counselling.
Clare Smith is the Learning Programmes Manager at Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums and has developed a number of high-profile learning programmes. She currently oversees the Central Learning Team, and this strand of work forms a part of their Major Partner Museums programme, funded by the Arts Council England, relating to children and young people.
